Hot chocolate machines have been around commercially for a long time. We have all bought hot chocolate out of a vending machine at a gas station or sporting event. It did a good job of warming your cold hands, but it usually burned your tongue! It took quite a while to cool down enough to drink.
Not long ago, hot cocoa makers appeared on the market for home use. At first it seemed like a As Seen On TV novelty or something that just showed up in stores around the holidays. Almost a gimmick appliance. But was it? Maybe there is something worthwhile about hot chocolate machines for home use.
After the first hot cocoa machine appeared on the marked for home use, it didn't take long for other appliance makers to follow suit. Those businesses had it right, hot chocolate machines were here to stay! Once people tried them out they were hooked. These don't give out the scorching hot chocolate of the gas station machine. You get perfectly mixed, frothy hot cocoa that is a joy to drink. In all the consumer reviews I have read, I have not found one that disliked their cocoa machine.
Some people have complained about the unit not being easy to clean because you can't immerse the pitcher in water or put it in the dishwasher. This is easily solved by putting water and soap in the pitcher and running the cocoa machine for a minute or so. The mixing action of the machine will spin the soap and water around to clean the milk and chocolate. Then you simply rinse and put away. That sounds like pretty easy cleaning to me!
Most of the cocoa makers are made with safety in mind. They have a very short cord. So short that when plugged in the unit will not reach the edge of a standard kitchen counter. This is great because then you don't run the risk of the hot chocolate machine being pulled or falling off the counter and burning someone with the hot liquid. Just make sure you follow the safety precautions and do not use an extension cord with these products.
One of the nice things about hot chocolate dispensers is they are not limited to hot cocoa. You can use the units to mix a wide variety of hot drinks such as cider, tea, coffee drinks, etc. Some people have even used them to mix soup! Most machines will come with recipes so you can make wonderful blended drinks to delight your family and friends.
